Leslie Berman - Conditions Assessment: After working as a commercial interior designer for 10 years, Ms. Berman returned to school at the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed a Master's Degree in HIstoric Preservation in 1997.  Ms. Berman's career has focused on the restoration of historic interiors with an emphasis on conditions assessments, materials conservation and finishes analysis.

Matt Carlucci - Insurance Issues & Financial Strategies for Historic Home Ownership: An agent with State Farm Insurance for 26 years, Matt Carlucci is also a former three-term member of the Jacksonville City Coiuncil, serving as City Council President  in 2001-2002. Mr. Carlucci is also past president of The Jacksonville Historical Society, serving from 1997-1999. He is married to Karen and they have twosons.  

Wally Conway - Prescreening Your Historical Home Purchase & $50,000 Repairs From 50 cent Problems: Wally Conway is President of Florida HomePro Inspections, and a featured inspector on the HGTV series "House Detective", and the DIY series "Finders Fixers." He is also host of the radio show, "The Home and Garden" (WOKV AM 690), and author of the book,  "Secrets of the Happy Home Inspector."

Laura Lee Corbett - Financial Strategies for Investment in Historic Districts: As a professional architectural historian and historic preservationist, Laura Lee Corbett
advises government agencies, non-profits and private sector clients on matters related to community revitalization, not-for-profit development and cultural resource management of historic resources. When serving as the former Florida Main Street Coordinator, Ms. Corbett directed technical assistance services to more than 70 Main Street programs statewide. Corbett is also the former Downtown Director for the City of Lancaster, S.C., where she served as the executive director of its local Main Street program. Corbett is a native of Jacksonville and served on the Historic Preservation Commission. She has an MFA in Architectural History and a BFA in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Corbett currently resides in Tallahassee.

Gunilla Craven - Buying & Selling Old Houses: Gunilla Craven is a real estate broker and owner of Oak Street Realty. She works closely with both buyers and sellers of historic homes, giving them guidance in design and restoration.  Winner of two previous awards for best home renovation from Riverside Avondale Preservation, she and her husband, Larry, received the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission's 2007 award for Rehabilitation of Multiple Properties in Riverside Avondale.  She lives and works in Riverside.

Linda Dove - Buying & Selling Old Houses: Linda Dove is a designer and a real estate agent. From Philadelphia to Jacksonville and places in between, Linda Dove has restored and sensitively renovated properties for over 23 years.  In the process she has demonstrated to her clients the value realized when preservation, restoration and renovation go hand in hand.  Her design work exhibits attention to finishes, detail, color and light with an appreciation for historic connections.  In addition to managing two businesses, Linda has served on the Stuart, Florida Main Street Committee, Martin County Commission for Beautification and, since 2006, the Riverside Avondale Preservation Board.   

Reggie Fountain - Insurance Issues & Financial Strategies for Historic Home Ownership: Reggie is a Jacksonville native who has spent most of his life around historic homes.  His parents instilled this passion in him by their renovating a 1919 Marsh & Saxleby home in Riverside and he himself renovated 2 homes in Atlanta before moving back to Jacksonville in 2003.  Reggie and his partner are currently renovating their personal home, a 1912 American Traditional home in Historic Springfield, as well as two investment homes in the same neighborhood.  Reggie has over 20 years of customer service experience through his early retail career with both Kmart Corporation and Federated Department stores.  The last 4 ½ years Reggie has been a REALTOR with Prudential Network Realty’s Historic Division where he has specialized in selling historic homes in the greater Jacksonville area.    His passion for historic and unique homes as well as his knowledge of the renovating process have proven to be a successful combination in assisting clients who are purchasing homes in the historic districts.

John Griffin - Electrical Wiring in Older Homes: John Griffin is a Master Electrician and President of United Electric, a full service electrical company active throughout Jacksonville that has been in business more than 50 years.  Mr. Griffin has been with the company for more than four decades. 

Andrew Ham - Financial Strategies for Investment in Historic Districts: As Managing Director of Urban Trust, LLC a tax credit real estate investment capital advisory firm, Andrew Ham has been actively involved in providing historic tax credit equity capital, tax credit investment transaction advice, and historic property rehabilitation since the late 80s. Ham is a recognized expert on the financing of tax credit enhanced real estate and the structuring of historic rehabilitation real estate transactions. His real estate background includes construction, development, leasing, underwriting and property management. Mr. Ham received his BA Degree from Widener University and an MS degree from Virginia Tech. He lectures on the historic tax credit and historic rehabilitation at the University of Florida and has also lectured at the University of Georgia, Athens. The firm has a special expertise in structuring and financing tax credit investment transactions involving public/private partnerships and for tax-exempt owners of historic properties. 

Joseph Hutchinson - The Building Envelope: With a master’s degree in architecture, a passion for perfection, and both a family and professional background in the contracting industry, Joe Hutchinson, CEO of XEYE, INC., brings intelligent, imaginative creativity to every design-build project.  An entrepreneur with an EYE toward building a better Jacksonville, Joe founded XEYE, INC. in 2000 to provide clients with on-target cost analysis, project management, dependability and turnkey design-build capabilities. A tri-athlete who competes in several local charity events, Joe is also active in his community. He and his wife have four children and reside in Jacksonville.

Karl M. Kramer - Hazardous Materials In Historic Structures: Senior Environmental Scientist, and Manager of Site Remediation for Moran Environmental Recovery, Mitch Kramer brings over 20 years of experience in hands-on and administrative oversight of multi-disciplined engineering, geotechnical, and environmental projects. Prior to obtaining a degree in Biology and Environmental Sciences from Jacksonville University, Mitch served in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger and explosives ordinance deep-sea diver in the Panama Canal Zone.  His duties included anti-guerilla and terrorist operations, including VIOP rescue activities.  Mitch joined Moran Environmental Recovery in 1995 after working as a District On-Scene Coordinator for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.  Mr. Kramer maintains extensive EPA, DOT, and FRA training certificates. 

William A. Leuthold - Building the New Old HouseBill Leuthold is an architect in Jacksonville, Florida, where he owns a firm that specializes in residential architecture.  Since receiving a Master of Architecture Degree in the Architectural Preservation option from the University of Florida in 1979, Mr. Leuthold has designed numerous new houses and renovations within the older Jacksonville neighborhoods.  He has served as a member of the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission since 2002.

Jodie Marchman – Roof Repair, Maintenance & ReplacementDuring a four-year roofing apprenticeship program under the guidance  of professional roofing and sheet metal fabricators at Reaves Roofing  and R.B. Gay Constructors, Jodie Marchman realized that the  commercial and industrial side of the roofing industry is far more  technical than the residential sectors. With this in mind, he started  his own business and implemented the strict techniques and sound  fundamentals of the trade, from below grade waterproofing to the roof  assemblies and their associated flashings, into roofing installation  of commercial roofing practices to the residential roofing market. Raised in Murray Hill,  Marchman has a special familiarity with the diverse roofing  conditions in the historic districts, and was invited by Joel  McEachin and William Leuthold, AIA to help develop the  SPAR  guidelines on roof projects. The nature of Marchman’s roofing  business has changed within the last 5 years, and now consists  entirely of forensic inspections, systems analysis, quality control  and specifications writing.

Joel McEachin - Researching Your Home's History: Joel McEachin currently serves as Principal Planner, Historic Preservation Section, of the Jacksonville Planning and Development Department. He helped draft and administer the city’s first historic preservation ordinance, which was the enabling legislation setting up the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission. He also researched, drafted, and administered the establishment of the city’s three historic districts as well as approximately 125 individual landmarks or landmark sites, which together reflect over 8,000 properties under the protection of the city’s design review process. During his time with the city, Joel has been involved with numerous historic surveys that have resulted in the documentation of over 10,000 sites on the Florida Master Site File, a statewide inventory of older and historic properties.  These sites predominately represent older buildings, but also include cemeteries, archaeological sites, bridges, and statutes. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Anthropology from Florida State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Secondary Education-Social Studies from Florida A&M University.       

James Dabney Peeples - Historical Landscaping: J. Dabney Peeples is a native of Starkville, MS where he received a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture from Mississippi State University. During his 27 year career, he has designed over 5000 gardens, many of which have been featured in publications such as Southern Living and Better Homes and Gardens, as well as numerous books. He is president and founder of J. Dabney Peeples Design Associates in Greenville, South Carolina, where he lives and works.

Brian Pippin - This Green Old House: Brian Pippin is currently a Conservation Coordinator for JEA’s Conservation Programs department.  His role is to help educate JEA customers on energy and water conservation techniques and products that save money, protect the environment and improve comfort.  He has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Memphis.  He has completed courses in Energy Efficient Building Construction in Florida and Advanced 2004 Building through the Universityof Florida.  He is a registered certifying agent for the Florida Green Home Designation Standard as set forth by the Florida Green Building Coalition.  He is a Florida Water Star certifying agent candidate in the areas of irrigation and indoor plumbing.  He is also currently enrolled in the National Association of the Remodeling Industry’s Green Remodeling Education program.

Ricardo E. Quiñones, AIA - Weaving New Systems Into Old Structures: Ricardo Quiñones is the Director of Architectural and Interior Design for PQH Architects Inc., a full-service planning, architectural, and interior design firm located in Jacksonville. In this position he is responsible for programming, schematics and implementation of design through construction documents. He has worked closely with owners and contractors to develop systems and methods of construction that streamline the design/build process. Mr. Quiñones is experienced in a variety of project types, including multi-family housing, senior living, historic renovation, educational and medical facilities. 

Kirk Reber - Stained Glass: Kirk Reber has been working in stained glass since 1982. Having received a B.F.A. from Alfred State College of Ceramics in glassblowing/ glass chemistry, he founded Creative Glassworks in 1993; it is the only accredited stained glass studio in northeast Florida, and one of just 98 in the country. His studio focuses primarily on window restoration and has twice been awarded the Preservation Excellence Award from the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.   Among Mr. Reber's notable projects are the restoration of  the windows in the historic St. Andrews Church, several windows at Hobson Auditorium (First Baptist Church) and the unique Klutho Apartments.

Mike and Paul Ruzanka - Getting Floored: Mike Ruzanka founded Armorshine Floors twenty years ago. It has been his pleasure to bring his wife (and co-owner) Charlotte into the business to handle the back end, while Mike personally supervises every job. Their son, Paul Ruzanka, age 29, has fourteen years of flooring experience and will soon be moving on to the JSO and parenthood. Armorshine advertises only in the yellow pages and Mike’s Church Bulletin. Through the many recommendations of satisfied customers, Armorshine is one of the largest hardwood flooring companies in Jacksonville, specializing in the installation, repair, sanding, staining and refinishing of hardwood floors.  

Herschel Shepard, FAIA - Wood Construction & Restoration in the Southeast US - Identifying Construction Methods & Materials: Professor Emeritus of the University of Florida's College of Architecture, and past holder of the Bienecke-Reeves Distinguished Chair in Architectural Preservation, Herschel Shepard is  widely recognized for his preservation work, including restoration of the historic Florida State Capitol, and  architectural stabilization and preservation at La Isabela, Concepción de la Vega, St. Augustine's Ximinez-Fatio House, and Fernandina's Ft. Clinch. He is a founder and past Director of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, and is the recipient of countless professional and academic honors. 

Lisa Sheppard - Preservation Process 101: Lisa Sheppard has been a Senior Historic Preservation Planner with the City of Jacksonville's Department of Planning and Development since 1998.  In 2000, she was a lead contributor in the Historic Preservation Downtown Revitalization Task Force that resulted in a Historic Preservation Trust Fund for the city's downtown properties. Ms. Sheppard holds a B.A. in Art History from the University of North Florida and attended the masters program in Historic Preservation at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Angela Schifanella – What Style is This House?: Angela Schifanella is an architect in Jacksonville, Florida where she lives and works in the Riverside Avondale Historic District.  After receiving a Master of Architecture Degree from Harvard University in 1987, Ms. Schifanella returned to Jacksonville and practiced commercial architecture for nine years. Since 1996 she has owned her own practice specializing in residential architecture; her work includes additions, new construction, and renovation of historic properties. She was named Outstanding Historic District Architect in 2002 by Riverside Avondale Preservation Society and, together with her husband Alan Wilson, won the San Marco Square Design Competition leading to the design of the lion fountain and tower for the Square in 1996.  

Kenneth R. Smith, FAIA- Retrofitting Historical Structures To Meet Access & Life Safety Codes: Kenneth Smith is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and has designed over 80 historic restoration projects in Florida and Georgia, including the San Jose Country Club, the Florida Yacht Club, and the 5 Points Theater Building.  His completed projects have been recognized with over 50 design honor awards from the AIA, the Florida and Georgia Trusts for Historic Preservation, and others. He also serves as the campus architect for Flagler College, and the Historic Preservation Consultant for The Bolles School.

Wayne Wood, OD - How We Lost Jacksonville (& How We Found It Again)– Photos from 33 Years of the Preservation Movement: Widely regarded as one of the foremost chroniclers of northeast Florida’s history and architecture, Wayne has been called “the undisputed godfather of preservation in Jacksonville.” The founder of Riverside Avondale Preservation and past chairman of the Jacksonville Historic Landmarks Commission, he has published seven books about Jacksonville’s history, including the classic Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage: Landmarks for the Future. The recipient of numerous awards, and in its fourth printing, this 424-page volume  is believed to be on more coffee tables than any other book in FloridaHe also co-authored The Great Fire of 1901 with the late Times-Union columnist Bill Foley and produced The Architecture of Henry John Klutho – The Prairie School in Jacksonville with architect Robert Broward. Wayne’s latest book is  The Jacksonville Family Album: 150 Years of the Art of PhotographyIn addition to being a writer, Wayne is an optometrist in private practice, with offices in Riverside and Ponte Vedra. He is nationally recognized for his work in contact lenses and has presented hundreds of lectures to optometrists in over 20 countries
